8 Indonesian Men Fined RM25,000 Each For Illegal Logging


SIBU: Eight Indonesian men were each fined RM25,000 or 10 months’ jail by the Sessions Court today for their involvement in illegal logging last year.

Clad in red-colour lock-up uniform, Agun Tomo and seven others appeared calm when they were produced before Judge Caroline Bee Majanil.

The other accused were Rudini Hawadi, Ririn Norsina, Nardi, Mislan Jaini, Hamdani Hassim, Riko and Antoni Safari.

They were charged with illegally collecting forest produce amounting to 736 logs at Lot 19, Block 11, near Kampung Bekakong, Daro near here at 11.30am on Nov 1 last year.

All the accused, who were unrepresented, pleaded guilty.

State Attorney-General Chambers’ legal officer Hishamudin Roslan prosecuted.

According to the facts, all the accused, who had stayed in the state without valid documents, were detained during an integrated operation led by Sarawak Forestry Department to stamp out illegal logging and timber smuggling activities in the state.-NST
