KUCHING: Sarawak Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Association is calling on young, qualified Sarawakians, specifically Chinese, who are interested to further their studies at the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) to do so soonest as registration of applications for admission to the university will close on April 11.
The association, in a press statement said that school-leavers who have obtained at least four passes in subjects namely Bahasa Melayu, English, Science and Mathematics can apply to further their studies in their programme of choice based on their qualifications.
Those who have obtained 4As to 6As, they can apply for the Defense Management and Strategy Studies, Defense Engineering and Technology Studies for those with 7As or 8As or Defense Health and Medicine Studies for those who achieved 9As or 10As in their 2013 SPM results.
In addition to academic qualification, candidates must have the following prerequisites; must be between 17 years, six months old to 19 years old on December 31 2014, single, have a minimum height of 1.62m for men and 1.57m for women, minimum weight of 47.5kg (men) and 45kg (women), minimum chest measurement of 76cm (for men), and have a body mass index (BMI) between 17-23 among others.
Those who are interested to apply are to obtain a pin number from Bank Simpanan Nasional and apply online through www.upu.mohe.gov.my and select UPNM as their first choice.
They can then email their registration slip together with a copy of their SPM results to pvtms2011@gmail.com or fax to 084-331871 or 084-349755.
Meanwhile, the association will also be collaborating with the United Chinese Association Sibu (UCA) in organising a roadshow in mid-April on recruitment to the Royal Malaysian Police among the Chinese.
In their efforts to assist the police in achieving their recruitment target of 5,000 Chinese, the association is calling on those who are interested to join the police force and contribute their commitment and service to the country.
