KUCHING: A total of 147 foreign women were arrested by police in two separate raids on entertainment outlets at Jalan Sg Padungan and Tabuan Heights here on Tuesday night.
The raids were conducted by Bukit Aman’s D7 unit, led by DSP Shan Goal.
On the first raid at Jalan Sg Padungan, 68 women from China, the Philippines and Vietnam were detained after they were found working as guest relations officers (GROs) at the outlet.
On the second raid at Tabuan Heights, 79 women comprising 37 Chinese nationals, five Filipinos and 37 Vietnamese were detained for similar offence.
Of the147 women, 19 of them were found without valid travel documents while three are underage. It is believed that the underage women are victims of human trafficking.
All of the women were later taken to the Kuching District Police Headquarters for documentation purposes and further investigation.-NewSarawakTribune
