“Two males and one female, aged 33 to 59, were arrested,” said head of state CID SAC Dev Kumar in a press statement yesterday.
According to Dev, customers who wish to gamble had to collect the tablets at the restaurant counter and buy prepaid coupons to access the gambling website.
He said at 5pm on the same day (Wednesday), the team raided a grocery shop at Taman Sri Dagang, Bintulu and seized six tablets, a computer, an account book and RM2,200 cash.
“One local male aged 29 and nine foreigners aged 19 to 45 were arrested in the grocery shop.”
Dev said on Tuesday, a team from the CID headquarters led by ASP Shuib Abdul Samat raided a shop lot at Jalan Ensing, Batu Kawa at 9.20pm.
Twenty-three computers used for cyber gambling were seized and four persons found on the premises arrested, he said.
“In spite of relentless police operations to eradicate cyber gambling in the state, gambling operators in Sarawak continue to defy the ban and conduct their activities in whatever means possible.
“The state CID is unperturbed by their defiance and will continue operations to flush them out.
“It appears that this year the state and district CID will have their hands full in combating this menace, ” he said.-Borneopost
