Failure To Reach Consensus Over Seats Proves Opposition In Disarray, Incapable Of Forming Steady Govt - PM
LUNDU: The opposition's failure to reach a consensus over seats to be contested for the 11th Sarawak state election proves the (opposition) are in disarray and incapable of forming a steady government said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The opposition's failure shows how weak they are in reaching a consensus and that is a reflection of their capability or lack of it, to administer a strong government said the Prime Minister.
Najib said the disunity within the opposition is also an indication that they (opposition) cannot work as a team due to a lack of understanding and tolerance.
He added that BN's uncontested win in two seats, Bukit Sari and Bukit Kota, was proof that there are weaknesses in their strategy and approach toward the election.
"They (opposition) have already suffered an early blow and the people are happy and confident with the capability of the current government because we are always united in our pursuit.
"Voters should shun the opposition because the government can ensure a bright and prosperous future for Sarawak through rapid development," he told reporters after accompanying Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem who filed his nomination for the Tanjung Datu seat at the Lundu community hall, here today.
It was the first time in the history of Sarawak election that the Prime Minister who is also the BN chairman, had accompanied the Sarawak Chief Minister who is also Sarawak BN chairman, to the nomination centre.
Najib who was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor urged the Sarawak BN election machinery to power ahead in full steam to ensure a splendid victory for Adenan's team.
"Do not be complacent or feel victory is in the hands although our confidence and capability levels are high. Our aim is not only to win more seats with bigger margins but also to wrest seats won by the opposition.
"We also want to increase the popularity of the Sarawak BN under the leadership of Adenan to ensure a fair representation of all races. This is important because we have a bigger agenda for Sarawak to continue the peace and harmony enjoyed by the people," he said.
Najib said the bigger agenda will be carried out within the next five years.
"The Federal government will continue to support, work closely and provide funds to Sarawak so as to progress on par with the mainland," he said.
Najib said the success of BN in Sarawak will be a precursor as well as strengthen BN's confidence for the 14th general election although "we will not take it for granted."
"The success of BN in Sarawak will be very important for the coalition in setting the momentum towards the next general election," he said.
The Prime Minister who is also the Finance Minister said among plans to boost Sarawak's economy over the next five years include mega projects like the Pan Borneo Highway, building roads in rural areas and providing broadband services to keep the people connected.- BERNAMA
