MIRI: The magistrates’ court here yesterday fixed Sept 23 for the re-mention of the two accused in the murder of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Miri secretary Bill Kayong.
Subordinate Court registrar Nuur Hafiza Yatim allowed the re-mention of the case after deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Mohd Izzat Mohd Abdullah told the court that the prosecution had yet to receive reports from the relevant parties; namely the post mortem results, chemist report and banking reports.
The two accused, Mohamad Fitri Pauzi, 29, and Lie Chang Loon, 37, who were brought into the court room separately were seen calm despite the room being packed by supporters of the late Bill, who was an activist.
Mohamad Fitri was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence if convicted, with shooting Bill at a traffic light intersection near E-Mart in Permyjaya around 8.20am on June 21 this year.
Lie, on the other hand, was charged with abetment, an offence punishable under Section 109 read together with Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He was charged together with Chin Wui Chung (who surrendered on Aug 18 and charged at the magistrates’ court on Monday) and two others Dato Stephen Lee Chee Kiang and Kong Sien Ming who are still at large for abetting Mohamad Fitri in the murder of the activist.
More than 200 people, mostly members of Sarawak Dayak Association (Pedas), gathered at the court yesterday. Also seen in court were Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon and former Piasau assemblyman Alan Ling. -BP
