DAP's Statement Against Sarawak Seat Increase Is Malicious

Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister; Abdullah Haji Saidol lambasted on Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong Chieng Jen's recent statement regarding that DAP rejection on Sarawak's seat increase.

"Again we are not surprise such response coming from Chong. All knows concentration of people live in the cities or town area. But in the rural areas, villages and Long Houses are scattered every where. Some constituencies are as big as a state in West Malaysia."

"To ensure that people especially in rural areas are well represented of their needs and demands, I think its about time this re-delineation exercise be considered," he said.

"Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Awar Haji Adenan Satem is very determine to focus on development in rural areas. DAP through their artificial political motivated Go Rural campaign also acknowledged the need to seriously look at rural development."

"So why is he against this effort of re-delineation? Is he not sincere to see development heading to rural areas? If delineation of Parliament Constituency fail to get the necessary support in Parliament then State Constituency can be determined at State level," questioned Abdullah sarcastically.

Chong who is also Member of Parliamanet for Kuching and also Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman said that,"DAP will not agree (to Sarawak's seat increase) whereby the numbers of voters in urban seats are several more times then those in the rural areas unless Election Commission puts in the principle of one person, one vote, one value in the upcoming re-delineation exersice, there's no way that there will be any re-delineation or increase in the state or parliament seats."

Abdullah, who was contacted by Sarawakiana on the matter said that, Chong's imposing a "One Person, One Vote" condition is obviously a self-centre motive solely for purpose of gaining political supremacies without looking at the real objective of wanting to serve people efficiently.

"He is implying that the vote from the cities folks are more "valuable" than that from the rural."

"When new constituency are created, why not DAP sent their candidates to stand there?," questioned Abdullah adding that, we are a democratic country and nobody can stop anybody who wish step in with the intention to serve that new Constituency.

"Chong never serve the rural areas and i'm not sure if he even serve his own Constituency efficiently."

"His accusation that the re-delineation is tailor made to serve what he described as defector is definitely a malicious statement," added Abdullah. -Sarawakiana.
