SUPP Triennial Delegates Conference Will Unite The Party & End It's Factionalism -Najib

KUCHING: The election for the new leadership in Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Triennial Delegates Conference tomorrow is hope to stop all it's internal bickering and ends the factionalism in SUPP.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that after three years of "bickering", he is sure all of them (SUPP leaders and members) are tired of these things which afflicts SUPP all this while.

"As the Chairman of Barisan Nasional (BN), I've always stood by SUPP because I believe in the politics of principle and and that nobody is larger or bigger than the interest of the party."

"We, as leaders are only as good as the party we represent therefore, we need to ensure our party is strong."

Najib said this in his speech at the officiating ceremony of the SUPP Triennial Delegates Conference at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP Headquarters, Jalan Ong Kee near the city here just now.

"And if we are together collectively, we will be stronger than the sum of the individual and that is why I don't want SUPP to be deregistered."

"SUPP must continue as a political party .. we don't want deregistered the opposition's parties .. if we want to find faults, DAP have many (faults) .. PKR is even worse but but we don't do that because we believe in the principle of democracy."

Najib stressed out that as SUPP have this meeting, the most important thing is to retain the support and confidence of people of Sarawak.

"I hope this signals the end of factionalism in SUPP and you elect new leadership tomorrow, you will unite behind the new leadership of SUPP."

"My next visit to Sarawak, I want to hear soothing sound that all is well in SUPP," said Najib giving a challenge to SUPP whom in response gave him a standing obiviation.

"When SUPP comes back, I want tu to be stronger, ready to fight for BN & contribute to big victory in next election," he added.

Reminding that there is much work to be done, Najib said that if we have unity & passion, a good heart, and give people new hope for the future.

"You must paint a new direction for SUPP ... you must have a concrete plan to deliver real change for the rakyat," he said adding that we cannot live on rhetorics as all must have specific plans and must give confidence to the people so they will support SUPP.

"Adenan (Chief Minister) and I are here to support you but I can't take the attitude ini parti that is with many problems therefore, this is the responsibility for both of us," he said.

"Don't talk about leaving Malaysia as not only is that Sarawak is big enough for the people, Malaysia is big enough for everybody," he gave assurance that his presence here (in Sarawak) is to render my full support for SUPP as BN chairman and for all BN Sarawak.

The officating ceremony was also attended by Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Adenan Haji Satem, SUPP President Datuk Seri Peter Chin  and other Sarawak BN component leaders. -Sarawakiana
