Accident Victim Crawls For Three Days From Crash Site

TAPAH: A man who suffered a broken arm and leg after being thrown out of his car in an accident crawled for three days before he was rescued by an orang asli.

A. Nicholas Andrew, 33, was found unconscious on Wednesday after having crawled along a river into an oil palm estate from the crash site along the Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur old trunk road near Tanah Mas.

It was only after he regained consciousness at the Tapah Hospital that he told the authorities he was involved in an accident on Sunday and there was another man travelling with him.

Firefighters scoured the crash site located at KM62.8 and found the second victim, R. Thiya­garajan, 34, dead in the car.

Tapah OCPD Supt Som Sak Din Keliaw said the two were heading towards Tapah from Bidor at 3am when the incident occurred.

“Investigations showed that the car skidded to the left when it was swerving along the curve of the road, before plunging into the 6m-deep ravine,” he said.

“The driver had tried to climb out of the ravine, but failed due to his severe injuries.

“He had to crawl along the river for three days before reaching the oil palm estate and was rescued by an orang asli.”

Thiyagarajan’s body has been sent to the Tapah Hospital for a post-mortem. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving. - The Star
