KOTA KINABALU: The police are in the midst of detaining a local woman for allegedly spreading false news on an abduction and intrusion in Tungku, Lahad Datu.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the police had identified the woman, in her 40’s, to facilitate investigations into the circulation of a three-minute voice recording to several quarters and the local media on Sept 25.
He said this at a news conference after attending a Hari Raya Aidiladha function at the Nur Islam Mosque, Sabah contingent police headquarters here today.
Jalaluddin said the case was investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.
Meanwhile, the police are also investigating a report on another individual for spreading false news on the same incident, in Pitas. - Bernama
