KUCHING: Police arrested an employee of the Sarawak Police headquarters here today on suspicion of having been involved in the robbery at a goldsmith shop in Jalan Carpenter three days ago, said Sarawak CID chief SAC Dev Kumar M. M. Sree Shunmugam.

He said police picked up the 30-year-old man up at his house in Petrajaya at about 6 am and recovered some jewellery there as well.

They also recovered a blood-stained shirt believed to have been worn by the suspect during the robbery, he said in a statement.

Dev Kumar said a man wearing a full-face crash helmet dashed into the goldsmith shop at about 4.30 pm last Saturday and fled with about RM20,000 worth of jewellery after smashing the glass showcase.

The robber, who injured his right hand during the robbery, escaped on a motorcycle ridden by an accomplice who was waiting outside the shop, he added.

He also said that police divers were trying to retrieve a spanner used in the robbery that is believed to have been discarded in a lake in Petrajaya.-BERNAMA
