KUCHING: The federal and state governments will hold a technical discussion soon on governance matters in Sarawak.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said in a joint statement after a meeting today (July 4) that the technical discussion would involve the Attorney-Generals from the federal government and state government.
“The memorandum on the stand of the state government has been delivered to the Prime Minister and this meeting also took note of a few governance matters that require further technical discussions between both parties (federal and state governments).
“It is agreed that the Attorney-General representing the federal government and Sarawak State Attorney-General representing the state government will discuss the matters further in a technical meeting that will be held soon,” the joint statement read.
Both Najib and Adenan met at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya today to discuss on the devolution of power, Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, Malaysia Agreement 1963, Malaysia Act 1963, Federal Constitution as well as the Cobbold Commission Report.
The discussion was aimed at strengthening the governance of the state government in upholding the spirit of Malaysia as a Federation and Sarawak as a peaceful and prosperous state in Malaysia, the statement added.
Both leaders noted that the outcome of this meeting proved the close relationship shared by both federal and state governments.- BP
