KUALA LUMPUR: The two Pas assemblymen who broke rank from the party over the Selangor leadership crisis are almost certain to be dropped by the party in the next general election.
Pas central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said his father, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who is the party’s spiritual leader had personally told him of the decision at the height of the crisis about three weeks ago.
The duo, Saari Sungib (Hulu Kelang) and Hasnul Baharuddin (Morib) had signed a statutory declaration along with their collegues from PKR and DAP to support the candidacy of PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s candidacy as Selangor menteri besar.
Nik Abduh said what they did was a transgression against the party’s stand on the issue.
“My father told me that what Saari and Hasnul did is wrong. He however did not say much or seem dejected, but wholeheartedly agreed that the duo should not contest (an election) on behalf of Pas again,” said Nik Abduh when contacted yesterday.
Saari and Hasnul at a fundrasing dinner hosted by DAP on Saturday, admitted that they were pressured from the attacks by party colleagues.
At the recent muktamar, Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang accussed the duo as had been “bought”, other than labeling them as “barua” (stooges) of DAP and PKR.
Hasnul had however, retaliated by expressing his willingness to contest on DAP’s ticket in the next general election.
“I will go against all odds. I am ready. It is alright if I will not be fielded (in the next general election) as a Pas candidate. I can contest under DAP,” Hasnul was quoted as saying at the dinner function.
In rebuking Hasnul, Nik Abduh in a Facebook posting described the latter had further “adorned his betrayal by standing ready to contest for DAP.”
“The devil (syaitan) will furnish 1,000 excuses for a traitor to justify his reasons. One of them (the two assemblymen) in his willingness to contest for DAP, has further substantiated the words of my father,” said the Pasir Mas member of parliament.
Meanwhile, DAP leaders yesterday chided Nik Abduh for claiming that the party had been bullying Pas and urged him to stop acting “like a Taliban member”.
Fresh from his reappointment as Selangor executive councilor, V. Ganabatirau said Nik Abduh should “get off his moral high horse” and review his blunt statement.
“He (Nik Abduh) needs to stop being in denial and desist from thinking that he is morally superior than others.
“Nik Abduh must think more about the people’s needs (in Selangor). If he continues to be in “taliban mode”, he is not going to contribute to the country’s future,” the Kota Alam Shah assemblyman said.
DAP’s Bukit Gasing Assemblyman R. Rajiv, when contacted, refuted Nik Abduh’s allegations.
“Where is the element of bullying he is referring to? Let us all (in Pakatan) move on from this episode (the Selangor leadership crisis),” he said via Whatsapp.
On Sunday, Nik Abduh fired a broadside at PKR and DAP, accusing them of “bullying” the Islamic party. He claimed that DAP and PKR were encouraging Pakatan supporters to hate Pas. - NST
