KUCHING: The all-out war against cyber gambling nationwide continued yesterday with the seizure of 43 computers from a premises and the arrest of its caretaker at Jalan Ban Hock.

The raid was carried out by a team from the state Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (D7) unit around 2.30pm, based on information received about a cyber gambling premises operating on the first floor of a shophouse.
Police went on to seize a total of 43 computers and arrested a 48-year-old man believed to be the caretaker.
The suspect was scheduled to be remanded later yesterday for further investigation.
Following the raid, Sesco personnel were despatched to the scene to disconnect power supply to the cyber gambling den to prevent it from resuming operations.
A nationwide crackdown against the cyber gambling scourge is currently taking place after Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar issued an ultimatum to all state police chiefs for them to either eradicate such premises within a week, or risk being transferred out within 24 hours.
In response, state police commissioner Dato Sri Wira Muhammad Sabtu Osman told The Borneo Post on Monday that he would abide by the directive, adding that such raids had been carried out continuously since the beginning of the year under Ops Dadu.
As of Oct 26, the police in the state have conducted 2,547 raids – 906 of which were successful –resulting in the arrests of 2,479 people, as well as the seizure of 11,367 computers and RM294,865 in takings.
Over a 24-hour period on Monday alone, the men-in-blue carried out 51 raids against cyber gambling premises, confiscating a total of 134 computers and RM2,017 in cash, as well as detaining 18 individuals. - BP
