KUCHING: Police have arrested another suspect in connection with the murder of PKR politician Bill Kayong.
State CID chief SAC Dev Kumar, who heads the special task force probing the slaying, said the 28-year-old male was picked up at an entertainment centre at Piasau Utara in Miri around 10.30pm yesterday (July 6).
“The Task Force has reasons to believe that this suspect could shed more light on the murder. He will be produced in the Miri Magistrate Court this afternoon for remand,” he said in a statement issued to the press today.
Dev Kumar also revealed that the investigation team will be applying for a second remand for the six suspects arrested earlier as their initial remand period is set to expire while investigation is not yet completed.
Last night’s arrest is the eighth made by the task force in connection with Bill’s murder.
One suspect arrested on Sunday (July 3) had to be released after the application for remand was rejected by the Miri Magistrate Court.
“A few more suspects are still at large. We are unable to reveal their identities at this juncture so as not to jeopardise the ongoing investigation. It is a matter of time before they are traced and arrested,” assured Dev Kumar, adding that his team is working round-the-clock in investigating the case.
On Tuesday (July 5), police recovered the shotgun believed to have been used in the June 21 slaying of the vocal Native Customary Rights (NCR) activist after the suspected triggerman, among the six suspects arrested earlier, led investigators to a house at Jalan Hai Nam Lama in Miri and revealed where the weapon was hidden.-BP
