New Fuel Subsidy Scheme Is Being Studied

DUBAI: Proposals are still being studied by the government on Malaysia's new fuel subsidy rationalisation scheme, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said the new scheme for RON95 petrol would be introduced by middle of next year and for diesel it would be earlier.

Najib, who is also the finance minister, said, for now the present system would continue until the best proposal had been decided which the government would announce.

"It is a bit premature (to announce anything) at this stage as we just request for proposals which mean we will not implement immediately.

"The problem is we announce not the entire package thus a lot of questions are being asked," he said.

In this respect, the prime minister decline to elaborate more on the new subsidy rationalisation until the time was right to do so. - NST
