Pullman Kuching Joins Police Kuching’s Crime Prevention Ride


KUCHING:  Some 300 cyclists have embarked on a 25km ride around the city centre in support of Kuching Police’s effort to create crime prevention awareness in the city.

The group consists of 250 Kuching Cop Cycling Club members and some 50 staff members from Pullman Kuching, in this ‘Crime Prevention Ride’ organised by Kuching Police and supported by Pullman Kuching.

Started from Pullman Kuching, located on top of Mathies Hill in city centre, the group cycled along Kuching Waterfront, main bazaar, carpenter street, main tourist attractions in city centre, new DUN and back to Pullman Kuching in this two-hour ride.

Kuching Police Chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad flagged off the Crime Prevention Ride.

“Safety and secutiry has always been our top priority in the hotel and we are committed to collaborating with various partners to create a safe place to live, work and travel for our guests, staff members and the community,” said Pullman Kuching general manager Felix Yeo.

“Crime can happen to anyone, anytime anywhere. However, many crimes can also be prevented so it is important that we stay alert at all time and play our very part in crime prevention,” Yeo added.

Emphasizing on the importance of cooperation between the general public and the police, Yeo said that Pullman Kuching staff will lead by example to become members of Kuching Cop Cycling Club and Rakan Cop (Friends of Cop).

“As one of the top hotels in the city centre with some 300 staff members, we can become the eyes and ears of the police not only within our workplace, but also in places we hang out,” Yeo said during the flag-off at the hotel’s main entrance this morning.   

Meanwhile, an exhibition booth on Rakan Cop was set up at the Hotel area where hotel staff members and members of the public were invited to participate. Rakan Cop members can reach the police or pass information to the police by texting to 32728.

Kuching Cop Cycling Club, which was set up in 2014, is open to members of the public.  The club organises monthly ride around city centre to create awareness and to enhance police omnipresent to deter crime.

Other than creating crime prevention awareness and strengthening collaboration’s with the police and general public, the club also aims at promoting healthy outdoor activity among Kuchingnites.

Pullman Kuching Security & Safety Manager Hussin Suhaili, who has been working with the hotel for two years, said the hotel has taken proactive measures in improving security and safety issues within the vicinity.   

“To minimize unpleasant incident within the hotel’s vicinity, we try our best to prevent crime by increasing patrol and installing much lighting surround the area.

“We also careful with the trees we plant and our exterior so we don’t create hiding places or interfere with sight-lines.” 

Moving forward, Hussin said the hotel would continue to work with the police and invite the police to have regular safety workshop with hotel staff members to strengthen existing crime prevention efforts. 

Also, the hotel will also continue to promote Kuching Cop Clycing Club and Rakan Cop through its communications network. - Sarawakiana
