KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (JBBN) this evening declared places within 10km radius of SMK Julau No.1 as rabies-infected areas.
The area is now the 27th area in JPBN list of rabies-infected areas, said its chairman Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas through a press statement.
The statement however did not say if anyone has been bitten by a rabies-infected animal at the school.
It was understood that if rabies virus is discovered in any new area that area would be readily declared by the state as a rabies-infected area.
So far Serian Division recorded the highest number of infected areas at 20, followed by Kuching (four) and one each in Sri Aman and Samarahan.
The outbreak was declared in June this year and thus far has taken the lives of four children children and one adult.-BorneoPost
