PETRA JAYA: Malaysia will not progress if it is being placed under the leadership of a “recycled” leader, Chief Minister and Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) Datuk Patinggi Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg said.
In an apparent jab against Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad, he said the opposition pact is fragmented unlike the BN, which had always been looking into ways of improving the people’s lives.
“BN is all for the future and we want to move forward.
“We cannot (afford) to have a recycled leader (to lead the country). Most of our voters are made up of people from the younger generation.
“And this group of voters are longing for something futuristic (for the future). That should be very obvious,” Abdul Rahman Zohari said.
He was speaking to reporters after chairing Sarawak BN meeting at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu headquarters here today.
Although he did not identify any name, it was understand that Abdul Rahman Zohari was referring to Dr Mahathir, who was announced as PH’s choice of prime minister candidate if the opposition wins the 14th General Election (GE14).
On preparation for GE14, he said Sarawak BN will form a joint committee among its component parties, to enable the ruling coalition in the state to come out with better strategy.
Sarawak BN, he said, will also formulate its own election manifesto for the people in the state to supplement the election manifesto by BN at the federal level.
On the crisis between Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and its splinter party, United People’s Party (UPP), Abdul Rahman Zohari said a discussion to resolve the impasse between both parties is on-going.
“I had been asked by Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) to negotiate (a solution between SUPP and UPP).
“Having said that, there are some matters that I could not reveal,” he said.-NST
