KUALA LUMPUR: The government is confident that the police can handle threats posed by the Islamic State (IS) as their modus operandi (MO) has already been identified and is constantly being monitored.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Jaafar said the police's anti-terrorism unit has the capability to neutralise the threat and will constantly take appropriate action to combat them.
"I believe the police can handle the IS threat; they have already identified the MO and recruiting methods by IS and they are being constantly monitored by the police, who will take appropriate action," Wan Junaidi told a press conference in Berjaya Times Square Hotel today.
He deflected criticisms that the government is not doing enough to address terrorism like the US, whose military is now engaged in combat with IS, and said Malaysians should stop being so critical of their own country.
Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi said the infamous sex blogger Alvin Tan must first prove he is being politically persecuted before he can seek asylum in the US and said the police is not treating his case politically.
He added that an extradition request to the US is only possible if Tan committed an act that is an offence under the laws of both countries. - Sun Daily
