COP21 Agreement at Final Stage of Negotiation - Wan Junaidi

PARIS: The Agreement of the 21st High Level Segment of Conference of the Parties (COP21) is presently at the final stage of the negotiation.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that, the 29-pages of texts of the Agreement has been submitted to the COP21 President Laurent Fabius earlier today.

"Now, it is up to the Presidency to digest and to compile the texts into an Agreement which will be the final stage of the negotiation," added Junaidi, who is currently in Paris, France when contacted by reporters via the telephone today.

Junaidi is representing Malaysia at the COP21 and the 11th Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP11) in France.

"Today's programs are bilateral meetings with China where we, China and Malaysia affirmed our common stand in the Like Minded Developing Countries (LMDC)," he said adding that Malaysia had also met with Saudi Arabia today and we waiting for further development of last night's negotiation."

He had disclosed that he had met with US State Secretary John F Kerry for one and half hour yesterday to discuss matters regarding the text draft agreement of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) at La Bourget Convention Centre.

The COP21 and CMP11 saw over 150 heads of state and government gathered in Paris at the UN climate scheduled between 6th to 12th December 2015.
