Formulation “BIMP-EAGA Vision 2015” Strategic Role To The Implementation Of The ASEAN 2015

The Signing Ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines welcome the formulation of the “BIMP-EAGA Vision 2015” to develop a resilient, inclusive sustainable and economically competitive sub-region.

Minister of Tourism Sarawak, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Bin Tun Abang Openg said, this will serve as the successor document to the Implementation Blueprint 2012-2016 that will serve support and complement the ASEAN 2015 : Forging Ahead Together road map.

"We endorse the guiding framework for “BIMP-EAGA Vision 2025 “ and call upon all BIMP-EAGA stakeholders especially the private sector and the local governments to take advantage of this opportunity to bring their views, inputs and projects that will generate economic growth and development in the sub-region,"

"We direct our senior Officials to finalize the “BIMP-EAGA Vision 2015” in time for the 12th BIMP- EAGA Summit,"

He said these to reporters on the press conference during State Legislative Assembly sitting today.

Johari as representative from Minister of Sarawak attend the 19th BIMP-EAGA Ministerial in Kota Kinabali Sabah yesterday added, that they are pleased with the completion of the West Kalimantan and Sarawak Power Interconnection project which is scheduled for full operation in 2016.

"We urge our power and energy officials to go give their full support to the study and to present the recommendations of the study by the next Ministerial Meeting."

He added, they note the new Community-based Eco-tourism (CBET) sites as part of the continuing effort to expand the livelihood of local communities and enhance the tourism experience in BIMP- EAGA.

"We welcome the publication of the Community-based Eco- tourism Initiatives of BIMP-EAGA booklet which promotes the CBET sites and tourism products."

"We reiterate the need for greater synergies between the transport and tourism sectors to enhance the development of tourism destinations." he said. - Sarawakiana.
