#DUNSitting : Sarawak Set Up Two Committees For 18th SUKMA

The state have been set up two main committees which is SUKMA main committee and organising committee in preparation for the 18th SUKMA that will be held from July 22 until 31, 2016.

Minister of Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, said, the training of athletes is being intensified at various training centres throughout the state.

"Some 850 elite athletes are presently undergoing training under 90 coaches at these centres,”

According to him, the training centres are provided with necessary equipment and facilities, while some of the athletes given exposure by competing in national and international tournaments.

"To boost the performance of the athletes, the ministry would also recruit additional foreign and local coaches."

He said in his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting today.

Mawan said that the venue for the 24 sports have been confirmed.

"Most of the games will be held in Kuching (17 games), Miri (3), Kota Samarahan (2) and Sibu (2). Construction and upgrading works of the venues are currently being implemented and targeted for completion by end of March 2016,"

He further said that technical officials and volunteers for the game were also undergoing training where at least 80 per cent of the technical officials are Sarawakians. - Sarawakiana
